More about the Photography Workshop:

Doug's goal is to help you go from "taking pictures" to "making photographs." He'll teach you to feel comfortable and confident with your DSLR, and to take control of your photographs.

The photo elements will revolve around two daily photo shoots, one in the morning and one in the late afternoon, to take advantage of the the great light at those times of day. Of course we will seek out Tuscany’s famous landscapes, its small villages, and rich historical sites. But we’ll also look for a bit of the “everyday” during our shoots: a market, the street life, a small farm, an artisanal wine-maker.

Through these photo shoots, as well as brief tutorials, group critiques and one-on-one attention, you will:
  • learn to take better, more creative photographs
  • learn how to shoot in manual mode so that you control the camera and the photographs you make
  • learn about the fundamentals of light, exposure and composition
  • develop an understanding of aperture and shutter speed
  • get an introduction to creative camera techniques
  • learn how to prepare for a shoot

We'll make it fun, challenging, and rewarding, and you will be a better photographer when the trip is over.

More about the Food Workshop:

The idea behind the food workshop is to provide you with authentic Tuscan cuisine, prepared daily by a classically trained private chef, and to offer you an education on both the food and how to prepare it by someone whose love of food was inspired by this wonderful part of the world.

    Some of the highlights include:
  • traditional Italian breakfasts of Blood Orange juice, espresso, yogurts, toasts and jams
  • trips to markets, cooking demonstrations, behind-the-scenes kitchen tours and chef tastings
  • beautifully constructed meals in the evenings
  • tours of local wineries, and nightly tasting of the local vintages of Chianti
  • the opportunity to learn firsthand from our private chef, and help prepare meals

At the end of the week you will have a richer understanding of Tuscan food and culture, a greater knowledge of the wine of Chianti, and the ability to go home and re-create the experience.
